Underage Gambling Policy
Edmonton Casino does not allow anyone under the legal gambling age to open an account or play. Online gambling with us is strictly for adults who are 19 or older in Alberta and Ontario, and who have reached the legal gambling age wherever they live. This policy explains how we verify age, how we help protect minors and what happens if an underage person tries to use our services.
1. Our Age Requirement
You must be at least 19 years old to register and play at Edmonton Casino if you live in Alberta or Ontario. In every province or territory, you must have reached the legal age for gambling that applies there. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement. Providing false information about your age is a serious breach of our Terms and Conditions.
2. How We Verify Age
We verify the age and identity of every player before any deposit is accepted. Our process includes:
- Checking your name, date of birth and address against trusted electronic verification services when you register.
- Asking for a valid government-issued photo ID if electronic checks cannot confirm your details.
- Asking for a selfie or live photo to confirm the ID belongs to you, where needed.
- Confirming that your payment method is registered in your own name.
- Running geolocation checks to confirm you are in an eligible area.
We may repeat these checks at any time, including before a withdrawal or if we have any doubt about a player's age.
3. Protecting Minors and Shared Devices
Many households share computers, tablets and phones. If young people can use your device, please take these simple steps:
- Never share your username, password or payment details.
- Do not let your browser save your login details.
- Always log out at the end of each session.
- Lock your device with a password, PIN or fingerprint.
- Keep cards and payment apps secure and out of reach.
- Set up separate user profiles for children on shared devices.
- Talk to children and teenagers about the risks of gambling.
We do not design our marketing to appeal to minors, and we do not advertise in places aimed at young people.
4. Parental Controls and Filtering Tools
Parents and carers can block access to gambling websites using:
- Parental controls built into computers, tablets, phones and gaming consoles.
- Content filtering offered by many internet service providers and home routers.
- Filtering software that blocks gambling sites and apps.
- App store restrictions that limit downloads by age rating.
For practical advice on keeping children safe online, including from gambling content, visit Internet Matters, which offers clear guides for parents and carers.
5. Consequences of Underage Use
If we find that an account has been opened or used by someone under the legal age, we will:
- Close the account immediately.
- Void all bets and cancel any winnings.
- Return deposits where appropriate, in line with applicable law.
- Take steps to prevent the person from opening another account.
- Report the matter to the relevant authorities where required.
If an adult knowingly allows a minor to use their account, that adult's account may also be closed, and any winnings from underage play will be cancelled.
6. Reporting Underage Gambling
If you believe a minor is using our services, or that someone under age has an account with us, please email us with as much detail as you can. We will investigate promptly and in confidence.
7. Support for Young People and Families
If you are worried about a young person's gambling, free help is available from organisations such as Gambling Therapy, GamTalk, 211 Alberta (dial 211), Kindbridge Behavioral Health and Internet Matters. In Ontario, ConnexOntario offers free, confidential support at 1-866-531-2600.
