KYC & AML Policy
Edmonton Casino is committed to preventing money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud and underage gambling. This Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Policy explains why we verify our players, what documents we may ask for, how we monitor activity and what happens if checks cannot be completed. We follow Canadian anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing laws and the rules that apply in the provinces where we are regulated.
1. Why We Verify
Verification helps us to:
- Confirm that every player is a real person and of legal gambling age.
- Make sure players are located in an eligible area.
- Prevent fraud, identity theft and use of stolen payment methods.
- Stop our services from being used to launder money or fund crime.
- Protect vulnerable players and uphold self-exclusions.
- Pay withdrawals safely to the right person.
KYC and geolocation checks are completed before any deposit is accepted.
2. Identity and Age Verification
When you register, we check your name, date of birth and address using trusted electronic verification services. If we cannot confirm your details electronically, or if further checks are needed, we will ask you to upload documents. These may include:
- Proof of identity: a valid government-issued photo ID, such as a passport, driver's licence or provincial identity card.
- Proof of address: a recent utility bill, bank statement or government letter showing your name and home address, generally dated within the last three months.
- Proof of payment method: for example, a photo of your card with the middle digits and security code covered, or a screenshot or statement from your e-wallet or bank account showing your name.
- A selfie or live photo to confirm that the documents belong to you.
Documents must be clear, in colour, complete and not expired. We may ask for more documents at any time.
3. Source of Funds and Source of Wealth
Depending on your deposit levels, activity or risk profile, we may ask you to explain and provide evidence of where your money comes from. This may include:
- Recent payslips or an employment letter
- Bank statements
- Tax documents
- Evidence of savings, investments, an inheritance or the sale of property
These checks are a normal part of how we meet our legal obligations and protect players from gambling more than they can afford. We may restrict deposits or play until the checks are complete.
4. Ongoing Monitoring
Verification does not stop once your account is open. We monitor accounts and transactions on an ongoing basis to identify unusual or suspicious activity, such as:
- Deposits and withdrawals with little or no gameplay.
- Sudden changes in deposit amounts or patterns.
- Use of multiple or third-party payment methods.
- Links between accounts that suggest duplicate or shared use.
- Attempts to hide location or identity.
We may ask you to update your documents or information from time to time, for example when your ID expires or when you change address.
5. Politically Exposed Persons and Sanctions Screening
We screen all players against sanctions lists and lists of politically exposed persons (PEPs), as well as their family members and close associates. We repeat this screening regularly. If you are a PEP or connected to one, we may apply enhanced checks, including source of funds and source of wealth reviews. We will not open or keep an account for anyone subject to sanctions that prevent us from doing business with them.
6. Record Keeping and Reporting
We keep records of player identity, verification documents and transactions for the period required by law, including after an account is closed. We are required to report certain transactions and any suspicious activity to the relevant Canadian authorities. The law may prevent us from telling you that a report has been made. We cooperate fully with lawful requests from regulators and law enforcement.
7. Payment Rules
- All payment methods must be in your own name.
- Withdrawals are paid back to the method used for deposit where possible.
- We do not accept cash deposits or payments from third parties.
- All transactions are in Canadian dollars (CAD).
8. If Checks Are Not Passed
If you do not provide the documents we request, or if we cannot verify your information, we may:
- Prevent you from depositing, playing or withdrawing until verification is complete.
- Suspend your account while we review it.
- Close your account and void any bonuses and related winnings.
- Withhold funds where required by law or where we suspect fraud or other unlawful activity.
- Report the matter to the relevant authorities.
Where an account is closed because verification could not be completed and there is no suspicion of wrongdoing, we will return any legitimate remaining deposits once we can do so lawfully.
9. How to Submit Documents
You can upload documents securely through your account. If you have trouble uploading, email us and our team will help. Please never send full card numbers or security codes.
